Pungky Widiaryanto was born in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in 1983. He is a forester by training from Gadjah Mada Univeristy, and Michigan State University, and is now a planner at the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) Indonesia. He specialized in nature conservation, national parks, forestry, and climate change.

He got many scholarships and fellowships, such as the most outstanding students by Gadjah Mada University and Ministry of Education Indonesia, USAID Scholarship, Chevening Fellowship, and Australia Awards. He also won sport competitions: Pencak Silat (Indonesia Martial Art), Tae Kwon Do, and Fencing. He was a tourism ambassador "Dimas Diajeng" for Yogyakarta. He lives in Jakarta with his wife and children.

He has published articles in national newspapers and academic journals. He has also actively written some public policy’s studies. He has travelled most national parks and forests across Indonesia. He is the author of Taman Nasional Indonesia: Permata Warisan Bangsa (Indonesia’s National Parks: Invaluable Nation’s Heritage).
