ELISHA ARAGON, heiress, lives alone in a luxurious condo on the fortieth floor across from Central Park in New York City. She questions her “friends” motives, not knowing if they are trustworthy or there because of her money. Her only true friend is Reggie, a gay man, who she confides in. She longs to find a man who loves her for herself, not her wealth.

A freak snowstorm in mid March brings the city to a halt. At dusk, she sets out to take a long walk in the city. Four blocks from home, she spots a restaurant and decides to stop and eat. Approaching the front door she slips on a patch of ice and, in an effort to keep from falling, she grasps the door handle of the restaurant just as DR. KYLE ROBERTS, cardiac surgeon, opens the door.

She falls forward into his chest, her feet go out from under her and she falls backward onto the sidewalk, cracking her head. While she's unconscious on the sidewalk, Kyle does a quick exam and determines she has no broken bones. Because of the snow, there are no taxicabs available and he knows that it will take hours for an ambulance to arrive on the scene.

As she regains consciousness, he questions her about any family or friends that can be called to stay with her through the night. She tells him her mother is dead, her father is in Europe looking for the next Mrs. Aragon, his eighth wife, and her only friend is in California for a week. Kyle discovers that they live in the same building and he holds her up and carries her home.

He spends the next six hours with her, trying to keep her awake. Then discovering a large swelling on the back of her head, he spends the night beside her on the bed, putting ice packs on the swelling every two hours throughout the night.

Their unquenchable desire for each other heats up fast, but there are stumbling blocks along the way. Kyle has a five year plan that doesn't include marriage and children. Elisha, an independent woman of means and an RN, travels the world giving of her time, talent and vast fortune to those who are less fortunate. She has trust issues and he has set goals. Neither want to bend to the other one's wishes.
