Segundo de Chomón is a significant figure from the early years of the history of Cinema. He began his career in Barcelona, where in 1902 he could be seen colouring a copy of Georges Méliès film Barba bleu frame by frame and filming reports on different parts of Catalonia. In 1905, he moved to Paris and soon became one of the most important technicians at the production Company Pathé, specialising in what we now term the Cinema of Attractions: trick films, phantasmagoria and animated films. contributed to the consolidation of a way of understanding cinematic grammar that was linked to magic and fantasy_ wizards, unlikely transformations, Acrobats and clowns, strange animals, sudden appearances and stunning substitutions, exotic characters, demonic legends, children's tales and Whole Worlds springing from a rampant imaginations etc. From 1910, first in Barcelona and later Turin, where he was hired by Itala Film, he managed to bring together this fascinating World in the early stages of narrative cinema- He took in a series of films. one of which was the legendary cabiria in which his special effects still seem today to have an undeniable modernity.
