I may or may not have been in love with Zoe Carlson for years, she just doesn’t know it.

To her, I’m another arrogant, insufferable defenseman. Her favorite headache to deal with, and the guy who flirts because he likes to rile her up. Who pushes her buttons for fun. The jokester.

And maybe I was, until the night I finally got to dance with her and kiss her and have her moan my name instead of curse it. Until the morning she walked away like it had meant nothing.

But after a video from my past resurfaces, we need a decent PR stunt. A media play designed to distract. Which means now, she’s mine—at least in the public eye.

Dating her is something I’m supposed to fake, something I’m not supposed to be invested in. But when she lands herself in real danger?

Game over.

And if she thinks there’s anything fake about that, she’s about to learn that when it comes to her, I’ll always make the play.
