After a perilous ocean voyage, she arrives in Manhattan alone and frightened. When Tato does not show up to meet her, Anika sets out to find him. Barely speaking English, she must navigate a strange and overwhelming city, dependent on the kindness of strangers, the companionship of a stray dog, and the strength of her own will.
