Romance author Cornelia Feyen is down on her luck. Having a sapphic love-affair exposed, she's had to flee her beloved Amsterdam to the small Dutch island of Gravesmade, the home of her brother's medical practice. Gravesmade is not a welcoming place for outsiders, and Alfred is struggling to gain the trust of the townsfolk. Luckily for him, Cornelia is half faerie with the ability to spot curses, and he thinks this gift might be able to drum up business (and keep his sister rich in chocolate). Unluckily for him, Cornelia is desperately suffering from heartbreak and not at all keen to unwittingly incur a faerie's wrath by breaking any curses they've cast. On top of that she's determined to lie low lest her editor track her down to demand her (very) late manuscript.

All that is thrown out the window when Cornelia and Alfred save a cursed housemaid, leading the pair to become the talk of the town. Suddenly, the practice is overwhelmed by patients. But with fame comes grave Cornelia's editor knows where she is hiding. Perhaps meeting the mysterious and delightful Josefien (who seems to be getting enmeshed with dangerous faeries at every turn) might be the answer to Cornelia's heartbreak and writer's block? Or maybe she'll bring more trouble and a much unwanted trip to faerie.
