Akira Tatehata is a Japananese poet who has been awarded the Rekitei Prize (1991) and Takami Jun Award (2005). The son of sculptor Kakuzō Tatehata, he graduated from prestigious Waseda University with a degree in French literature. He is the author of three volumes of avant-garde/experimental prose poetry. Jerome Rothenberg has remarked that Tatehata possesses "a genius for the short prose poem that recalled a handful of poets so gifted in our own language & place." In addition to writing poetry, Tatehata is also an internationally renowned art critic and curator of contemporary art.
