Marty Thompson Arnold grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan and earned degrees at Michigan State and Northwestern University. She has worked as a teacher, journalist, communication director and magazine editor. She lives on her own small patch of wilderness hidden deep within the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
