Stanley Roger Green was a Scottish architect, poet and writer. He was educated in Edinburgh and Clackmannanshire, and studied at Leith Nautical College after the Second World War. His account of a voyage round the world as a cadet on the SS Rembrandt was published as Whither O Ship: Adventures in a Tramp Steamer (1989).

After leaving the sea, he did a stint as a forestry worker, until he was conscripted into the army. On being demobilised he entered Edinburgh College of Art to study architecture, subsequently being appointed principal architect at Midlothian County Council.

Writing and poetry were his great passions. He was influenced by the older generation of poets who gathered in Edinburgh’s Rose Street pubs in the 1950s and 60s, writing about their heydey in A Clamjamfray of Poets (2007).
