John Wooten's plays have been produced Off-Broadway, in London, Australia, India, Canada and in regional Equity theaters across America. Productions include: Trophies (Off-Broadway at the Cherry Lane), The Mission Home (King's Head Theatre in London and the Forum Theatre), Happy Hour (Twelve Miles West), Wingman (Altered Stages) Kiss the Bride (TheatreFest), UnCivil War (Theatre at Lime Kiln), Humbug (Premiere Stages), The Role of Della (ATL finalist and over 100 Regional productions). His screenplay Savage Act was a semi-finalist for the Nicholls Fellowship, sponsored by the Academy Awards. His screenplay Cat in the Pan is currently in post-production in Canada. Wooten has produced and/or directed over fifty professional productions at Premiere Stages and regional theatres across the greater Metropolitan area, including the New Jersey Premieres of The Trip To Bountiful, starring Ellen Burstyn; The Presidents, starring Rich Little; Do Not Disturb, directed by Olympia Dukakis; Dracula, starring Lorenzo Lamas and the critically acclaimed productions of Rabbit Hole, Smulnitz's Waltz and Boy Gets Girl. John has also developed and dramaturged numerous new plays that have had successful premieres including Opus, Where the Sun Never Sets, Dark Part of the Forest, Greek Holiday, ODD, Madison, Custody of the Eyes, Noon Day Sun, and Wildlife. Before being hired by Kean University to develop Premiere Stages, John served ten seasons as the Artistic Director of TheatreFest in Montclair. John is the resident director of the Peter Ustinov Screenwriting Contest for the International Emmy Awards and a frequent director of the NYNATAS Monday Readings Series.

John teaches Playwriting and Inside Television at Kean University. He has developed and taught playwriting residency programs in school districts across northern and central New Jersey and served seven years as an evaluator of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center’s education outreach programs.

Awards/Nominations: New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship, Best New Play nomination from the American Critics Association and three Best New Play nominations from the Newark Star-Ledger.
