Michael M. Coroza is a distinguished Filipino poet, essayist, translator, and academic known for his contributions to contemporary Philippine literature. He writes primarily in the Filipino language and has been a recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the S.E.A. Write Award.
Coroza is a prolific poet, known for his command of traditional forms like the balagtasan, and has received multiple Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature. He is also a renowned literary translator, with his translation of Apolinario Mabini's La Revolucion Filipina receiving a National Book Award in 2016. As a literary scholar, his essays and critical works have been published nationally and internationally. He has also been a strong advocate for the Filipino language, serving as the Chair of the Writers' Union of the Philippines (UMPIL).
