Steffen Kretz is a senior international correspondent and news presenter with the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (“DR”), Denmark’s public service broadcaster and the primary news provider in Denmark, similar to the United Kingdom’s BBC.
Today, Mr. Kretz is Chief US Correspondent for DR.
Over the past 25 years, Mr. Kretz has held numerous positions within DR, covering major international news stories and reporting from wars and conflict zones in the Middle East and Africa.
He has been based in NewYork as a US correspondent and in Amman as bureau chief of DR´s Middle East bureau. He is considered an expert on the Middle East and especially on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, previously hosting DR’s legendary foreign affairs program Horisont (Horizon), similar to CBS’ 60 Minutes.
Throughout his career, Mr. Kretz has interviewed numerous world political leaders including US president Barack Obama, Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi, former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Pakistani premier Benazir Bhutto, South African archbishop Desmond Tutu, former South African president Frederick De Klerk, Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko, former Philippine President Corazon Aquino, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, Israeli President Shimon Peres, Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi, Afghan President Hamid Kazai and business leaders like Tesla’s Elon Musk, and Microsoft’s Bill Gates.
In 2005 he produced and presented the international documentary series They Made History that has been aired by TV stations across the world.
Outside of DR, Mr. Kretz is a successful author and frequent lecturer, moderator, and speaker at universities and conferences. He is married to Lillian Gjeruff Kretz, also a correspondent with DR. Today, the Kretz’s live in Washington, DC with their two young children.
